P-Journ #94, est 2008--> Reborn.

It's been a long time since a personal post. This year brought the busiest portrait season to date, leaving little time for personal expression and reflection. With the last set edits winding down, the Photojournal, "P-Journ"is reborn.

P-journ #94:
The new year: A familiar school but unfamiliar feeling of being the new teacher, 7 years in. 
The realization: Transition takes time..the comforting space of D-18, the art room for creativity & after school goodwill is now 207.
The progress: One marking period in the rearview// 337 + student breadth and concentration photos critiqued, xacto blade tears :), frustration, and the 1st gallery exhibit of 8 unique Advanced Photography students hung.
The facts: Block 2 keeps me on my toes.

It's been quite some time since I've shared a photo-journal entry.
After a 5 month p-journ hiatus...much has changed, much has been learned & much lies ahead.

My photo-journal entries are often where my real  9 - 5 and photography collide.

This subject of this journal entry reflects
the struggling students, that gave their best even when it didn't come easy.
the few that challenged my good days & bad.
the many that made me laugh.

I owe a great deal to the 750+ teenagers & counting that leave lasting impressions, long after the semester ends. My 9-5 is dedicated to teaching... yet they are the sole reason I keep learning.

I would best describe her as a natural creative spirit. To put it simply she came up with the name, Refrigeratorgood shortly after a casual conversation about my site idea.  Taylor possesses a positive contagious energy that made this year, one of my most enjoyable years as an educator thus far.

This September marks:
-My 6th school year & 6th batch of Digital Imaging students...

A new site, fresh crop of high schoolers that seem to know more & more about technology
prior walking into my room.

shed light on the realization that home-base wasn't too bad after all..

Discover instagram.
Unnecessarily waste time choppin Brussel sprouts.
Repaint, rearrange my office and bedroom.
Prep & Revamp my Digital Imaging course.

Glancing at the Spring line up + two sessions this weekend
indicates a bitter sweet end to free time and consumption
of finely chopped brussel sprouts.

I unearthed this quote while looking through an old family album in West Virginia on NYE.
The yellowed newpaper was perfectly positioned next to a
black & white photo of my dad, {in typical Eric fashion on the right.}
The quote immediately brought me back to the thoughts & words posted
during my most difficult day in 2011.

It's been some time since I've picked up a camera for personal use.
An afternoon visit with Max & Cleveland, two weeks ago was
a nice reminder of what is feels like to take a photo...just because.

It's nearly impossible not to use Andrews mug shot as a demo when teaching.
As my #1 Critic, I perhaps having him critique a portrait of him gives me some leverage..
